Icon Vector Art

After finalizing the sketch I wanted to use for my graphic I placed a picture of my sketch in Illustrator so I could trace it.

After I finished tracing the leaf form I began to work on the hair. I used the pen tool for the leaf, but since my hair is sort of wavy and slightly unruly I decided to use a different tool, the paintbrush tool seemed to work well for what I was wanting to do.

Here are some of the final products.
And finally the outline.

Icon design…REMIX!

I decided to take a new direction with my icon. I looked back at my word list and found inspiration in some different words than I had origionally started with. This time words like nature, vagabond, observer stuck out to me. They seemed more in depth than my original words…which seems to be my current mood. I started to simply doodle a leaf. with a picture in it:

I sort of realized that this was far too complicated for my icon composition so I started looking up pictures of leaves on google. I stumbled upon a picture of a leaf cutting and I got really inspired. So naturally I googled more.

I loved the silhouette look and with some art direction from Mrs. Speligene I decided to go with a cameo look when it came to my inner leaf design.

This is my concept sketch, I like it a lot more than my previous ones.

Icon Project Progress...

We started a project in Graphic Design 2 where we are designing our own icon. I stared off with my word list to oganize my ideas.

After I completed a list of 30 words (I added a few more once I started sketching), I started to form the shapes from my words. I deducted from things my friends say to me and possibly my own addiction to sweaters that maybe I should include a cardigan in my logo. Then thinking further I carry a notebook with me wherever I go. That thought process spurred these to sketches...

I'm still in a debate with myself as to which one I like more, the figure or the sweater....

Here are my more recent sketches...

This final one is a parody of NBC's the office logo that I made just messing around...I think it might be my favorite.

Vector Art Play

This logo play piece messes with the Starbucks logo. When we were first assigned this project I got on brandsoftheworld.com without a clue of what logo I would choose to use. As I started flipping through the pages upon pages of logos I came across a few that I liked, and a few that I recognized. Then I stumbled on to this one and I knew that my search was over being as I spend way too much of my time at a Starbucks in Owasso. I also might add that Starbucks and I have a love/hate relationship. I don't really like their coffee, but the environment lends itself to the quiet time and wifi use that I need when I have time to waste in between the things I do (i.e. Church, hanging out with friends, dentist appointments, random escapades...)in Owasso. Originally I was going to do a circular design and play with the scale of the logo, however, I wasn't pleased with the inconsistency of the design. I was much more pleased with this one, not only because it was very linear, but some invisible lines showed up when I starting placing the logos side by side. I enjoy that.

About Me

My name is Francyne Melberg, I'm from Catoosa, Oklahoma. I graduated from TCC with my associates degree in art. In the fall of 2012 I transferred to Rogers State University to continue my studies. I am a Graphic Design Senior and I will graduate in the Fall of 2014. I have been using Adobe software since I was a senior in high school, I would consider myself proficient in Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. I've never used Dreamweaver, but I would love to learn more about it! In this class I hope to be pushed creatively to think outside the box when it comes to graphic design. Although I'm not completely sure what I want to do when I graduate from RSU I do know that making art is incredibly important to me!
